Rose Prince book signing at Turnbulls

Calling all foodies!  Rose Prince, the local literary food hero was at Turnbulls Deli for a book signing on Saturday 12th April.  The team were delighted to offer customers the opportunity to meet Rose and acquire specially signed copies of her latest book The New English Table, which is launched this week.

In the mean time (before we are too famous...) Charlie Turnbull and his staff look forward to seeing you at our shop sometime soon  -  Enjoy!

Spotlight on Cheese

At Turnbulls we are proud of our cheeses. We have selected a few varieties to highlight.

Point your mouse at each cheese for more details!

Montgomerys Cheddar
Jamie Montgomery's cheddar from just up the road in North Cadbury is Charlie's favourite West Country cheese. Full of taste and tradition, Monty's is the cheddar lover's cheddar.

Brie de Meaux
French cheese's king of kings. Since the Middle Ages, this cheese has captured the hearts of all who have experienced its outstanding taste. The pâté is compact and even textured. Its color is pale yellow, reminiscent of straw. Its rind looks like white velvet. The taste is creamy and as the maturing process continues, one detects a subtle, nutty flavor.

Beenleigh Blue
Blue cheese made from sheep's milk. It is moist, yet crumbly, with the blue appearing as bold blue-green streaks through the white interior. The flavor is steely blue, with the burnt caramel sweetness, characteristic of fine sheep's milk. It melts on the palate, disclosing its strong, spicy character. The cheese ripens in six months and has a fat content of 45 - 50 per cent. It is available from August to January.

Ashmore
Ashmore Farmhouse Cheese is our most local cheese from just a few miles outside Shaftesbury. Made by Pat & David Doble, this is probably our best selling cheese and a real local hero.

Wigmore
An English vegetarian cheese made from sheep's milk and belonging to semi-soft cheeses. The curd is washed to remove excess whey, then packed in moulds to drain. The cheese has a fantastic taste, combining floral flavours with burnt caramel, macadamia nuts and roast lamb. Wigmore consistantly wins gold medals at the British Cheese Awards.

Dorset Blue Vinney
Made with skimmed milk and allegedly originally matured in cow dung (!), this is Dorset's finest blue cheese. Makes the best cheese on toast ever (seriously!)
